Caley Tate and Travis Smith dreamed of an elegant fall wedding filled with the season’s beauty and exuberant joy. In light of this vision, Radnor Hunt’s charming meadow and elegant ballrooms were just the place for their 200 guests to gather on October 7, 2017. Custom décor and a fresh menu allowed them to realize their wedding dreams on this historic property.
The creative wedding ideas on display at the Smiths’ celebration will work with weddings in any season, so let’s take a look!
A Beautiful Fall Wedding Reception at Radnor Hunt
Natural Views Enjoyed Inside and Outdoors
As couples walk throughout our lush meadow and maybe even opt to pet our friendly horses, their desire to draw attention to the outdoors grows. In the case of Travis and Caley, the lush grounds only furthered their fall wedding inspiration that called for mini pumpkins at the guestbook and gift tables. Their centerpieces also showcased the season’s beauty, with a third of them being a collection of flowers beautifully arranged by Anne Ottley, a third being artistically presented wine bottles, and the rest being composed of gourds and pumpkins.
Historic Charm Elevated a Rustic Wedding Theme
With a charming old Chester County homestead atmosphere that comes from dating back to 1883, choosing Radnor Hunt as their venue made the Smiths’ rustic wedding theme come to life effortlessly. Décor that included a burlap guestbook sign, weathered wood love storyboard and golden horseshoe thank you gift display augmented the relaxing atmosphere guests enjoyed. Whether taking photos by the fence or sitting down to beautifully set tables, the Smiths and all their guests felt at home.

Picturesque Sunset Cocktail Hour
From the time guests arrived, it was not long before they were enjoying sunset views and signature cocktails on our patio. In addition to the full bar offerings, guests had their choice of the bride’s PomTini pomegranate martini, the groom’s Tequila-Rita and our Jameson & Peach Schnapps. The only thing left to complete this picture-perfect cocktail hour was tasty bites—and J. Scott Catering delivered big!
Known for their fresh and innovative food, we were not surprised to see a beautiful domestic cheese display as well as these creative passed hors d’oeuvres at the Smiths’ cocktail hour:
- Barbecue braised short rib: on Yukon chip
- Korean chicken skewers: marinated in soy, chili flakes and other traditional flavors
- Fried goat cheese: with prosciutto and warm truffle honey
- Mini barbecue pulled pork sliders: Carolina slaw
- Seared sesame tuna cubes: soy ginger dipping sauce
- Herbed shrimp cocktail: stoli cocktail sauce

A Beautiful Start to Dinner Service
Introductions of the bridal party and parents took place in our small ballroom’s middle doors—a lovely frame for these memorable moments. Caley and Travis also decided to use our intimate ballroom for the first dance and father-daughter dance. After these wonderful traditions, we invited guests into our large ballroom for the welcome speech and champagne toast. At this time, guests also enjoyed their first taste of the fine plated dinner service. The chicken and corn chowder with garlic paprika brioche was the perfect warm-up for the delicious main courses.

A Custom Farm-to-Table Dinner Menu
Thanks to our grand ballroom’s floor-to-ceiling windows, guests continued to embrace the beauty of the surrounding meadows when they enjoyed their choice of entrees. Integrating a rustic vibe and seasonal ingredients, the dishes were a perfect display of the Smiths’ beautiful fall wedding vision. Accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes and green bean bundle with carrot ribbon, the following entrees satisfied guests in unforgettable ways:
- Grilled Coleman ranch chicken breast: melted leeks, brie cheese fondue and pancetta
- Marinated grilled filet of sirloin: cherry wood smoked bacon and fresh herb Dijon cream
- Seasonal vegetable risotto: grilled leeks, porcini broth, toasted brioche

An Evening to Remember
After the bouquet and garter tosses as well as the cake cutting, guests were free to enjoy all of the spectacular dessert and dance time they liked. Clay’s Creative Corner Bakery really impressed us with the artistically designed custom wedding cake, and few guests could resist having a slice of it with a cup of coffee or tea. With the fire pit blazing and shoe dance scheduled to bring guests together under the music of DJ Lou Tiernan, memories of a lifetime were made even before the sparkler send-off at 10:45pm.
We are so glad photographer Amy Tucker was on-site to capture the wonderful moments guests enjoyed at Caley and Travis’ wedding. It was a pure joy for us to oversee this flawless fall wedding.
